If you're someone like me, then you've probably had your fair share of stubbing your pinky toe on the corner of the bed frame kind of days. Everyone has had those days where its hard to role out of bed, dragging your butt to the gym feels like an order from Satan himself, and to top it all off you lock your keys in your car. (The freaking worst by the way) I find that if I set myself up for a great day in the morning then I am more likely to have a smoother mid-day and afternoon. Oh sure, there are always opportunities to turn a bad day around, but let's be honest, it can be tough! Not all things are going to be fixed with an extra shot of espresso, am I right? Well, maybe some things, but we can talk about those things another day! Today, we are going to dive into three simple ways to ensure we have a perky & positive day right from the get go!
First, let me start by saying that I never thought I would be this person, but I swear this tiny task has changed me for the better. Yes ya'll, making your bed every morning can set you up for a blissful ride into work and a better attitude to whomever you come in contact with at the gas station that morning. That little sense of accomplishment before leaving the house triggers that pleasure sensor in your brain. We love validation and if we can validate ourselves in that way then we are more likely to continue on that positive track throughout the day. Taking that moment to fluff your pillows or spritz the sheets with your favorite essential oils can create a sensory overload. In the best way possible, of course. Its the, "Whew! One task complete, what's next?" type of attitude that'll really get the day rollin'.
Second, give yourself some time to reflect. Whether it be mindful meditation, sitting down and having a cup of coffee, yoga, taking your furry friend for a walk, or writing a quick entry in your gratitude journal. It is important to take time and collect your thoughts without any interruptions; help to create that intimate relationship with yourself. Setting aside that time not only creates space in your mind but also organizes everything that you've over thought the night before. Don't worry, we all do it. I personally love a list. Simply sitting down with a cup of java and creating a to-do list really get's my gears churning. An item on my list can be as simple as "shave your legs," I leave nothing behind. That satisfaction of crossing what I've accomplished off is unmatched. We are all different, your reflection time may not be like mine, but it is just as important!
Lastly, stretch that beautiful body of yours out! Think of all that pent up stress you hold within your body daily! Stress not only projects onto your loved ones, but also manifests itself inside of your body. Help to release some of that tension by simply touching your toes or trying a couple of yoga poses. We tend to hold a lot of our resentment, stress and anxiety in our hips. Helping those hips of yours loosen up opens that clogged channel of bogged down emotions we tend to carry with us. Work to let go of what bares weight on your soul, trust me, you don't need it anymore! By allowing stretching to become part of your morning ritual, you are now allowing yourself to feel the positive changes it has to offer. Not just physically, but mentally as well.
We all get so swept up in our routines and tend to roll with the motions of our daily lives. Believe that there are ways to improve and take those small steps to make that positive change happen. Small changes such as making your bed, taking time for yourself and stretching out the kinks are just some tweaks we can make to drastically improve our days. Step into the office, coffee shop or even the local deli with a newfound attitude. Shine that light on others and find that your new attitude and outlook can help attract so many great things! Create good intentions for yourself & remember to breathe deep, you are worthy.
